Harnessing the Superpowers of Emotions
Learn Yogis tools for embracing sorrow, joy, courage and fear
May 17 - 21, 2021
Joy and Sorrow
Grief is an inevitable experience. We all have people and things that we love—that we wish to hold on to forever. However, life promises change. With this process of change comes the experiences of loss, grief, and suffering. In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, we are guided to be inspired by “Vishoka va jyotishmati,” which means to focus on light, luminosity, eternal joy. During this live course, you’ll explore how you can apply the wisdom from yoga, tantra, and ayurveda to deal with loss and grief.
Courage and Fear
According to Patanjali, fear remains in all of us—even in the wisest of the wise. It flows by its own momentum. In this course, we consider: What is fear? Whom or what do we fear? Why do we fear? Is fear necessary? How do we equip our breath, mind, emotions, and body to deal with this primal feeling that is necessary yet potentially paralyzing? Learn the yogic methods of stilling the warrior’s stance, gazing with the eyes of discernment, and acting with the tools of dharma (duty).
In this course, you’ll explore:
- The role that diet, colors, and objects such as gemstones can play in aggravating and supporting your emotions.
- The nature of emotions through the lens of the doshas, gunas, and elements.
- The emotional connection between the brain and the body, as well as the mind and the breath.
- Six yogic steps to help you deal with emotions.
- How to use courage, self-inquiry, and practice to understand, discern, and balance sorrow, fear, loss, and anxiety.
You’ll walk away with tangible, actionable, and supportive yoga practices of pranayama, mantra, kriyas, asanas, relaxation, and meditation to free yourself from emotional overwhelm and experience more peace.
Emotions are part of what makes us human. Understanding them gives us the necessary strength, power, and hope to rise beyond their grip. To regain balance during turbulent times and refuel the desire for growth, it is necessary to explore our emotional terrain.
Part 1 of this series focuses on four main emotions: ananda (joy), karuna (sorrow), veera(courage), and bhayanka (fear). Each emotion has a final abode: shanta (peace). During this course, you will learn a six-step process to help you reclaim your peace, physical wellness, and santosha (contentment).

Who is this course for?
This course is for those seeking insight into emotions. It can benefit anyone—yoga teachers, yoga therapists, ayurvedic counselors, mental health professionals, and all curious learners.
Is this course suitable for all levels of physical ability?
Yes, most of the practices are simple and don’t require extreme flexibility, strength, or even a large amount of time. This course is designed for our current lifestyles, where time is of the essence and accessibility is a must. Also, you will learn a variety of techniques and tools to ensure you start from where you’re comfortable.
What are the styles of yoga taught in this course?
Indu Arora, the teacher of this course, is equipped with the knowledge and practice of Kriya Yoga, Himalayan Yoga, Sivananda Yoga, ayurveda, tantra, Kashmir Shaivism, bhakti yoga, and yoga therapy. She combines the wisdom of all these traditions in her trainings, workshops, and courses.
Will I be able to apply this information to my classes or sessions if I am a yoga teacher or yoga therapist?
Yes, you can! That is the goal: to learn, apply, and share—in that order. Indu suggests that you first apply the teachings to support your own growth and emotions before offering them to your students or clients. This will allow you to share with integrity, truthfulness, and from a place of realization.
Will the live portion of this training accommodate different time zones?
Yes, you may join the course at any time once the course goes live. However, Indu suggests you join from the first session, as this will be the most beneficial way to establish a solid foundation before diving into the heart of the topic. Her philosophy is “The participant is welcome at their own pace.”
Can I sign up for the course if I’m unable to attend all live sessions?
Yes! All sessions will be recorded and made immediately available inside the course. In order to receive continuing education hours for the course, you will need to complete all sessions.
How do I access the live online course?
Students can access the live portion of the course via Zoom and within the Yoga International platform. Clear instructions and registration links will be provided in the welcome guide inside your course.
How much time do we dedicate to practice vs. theory in this course?
Each session will include one practice session that is 40 to 50 minutes long. The remaining course time is divided between theory and real-time Q&A.
Will the live portion of this course accommodate different time zones?
We’ve selected times that will hopefully accommodate participants in various time zones, though it’s impossible to make the time ideal for everyone. If you are unable to attend the live sessions, you can watch each session’s recording at your convenience.
Can I get continuing education contact hours if I’m a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance?
Yes! Currently, Yoga Alliance is accepting all continuing education completed online. This includes both contact and non-contact hours.
