Yoni Mudra has become an Instagram favorite - but what's being shown is rarely the real thing.
Yoni means source or womb. Yoni mudra is the gestural representation of the sacred womb.
In Yoga Mudra, Yoni Mudra is not the simplistic joining of thumb and index fingers of both hands to symbolize the womb.
Yoni mudra is a little bit of a complex hand formation, however, this complexity is not for nothing. It represents harmony, communication, and connection between the Muladhara Chakra and Swadhishthana Chakra for ease of flow of prana (as apana) in the generative organs and organs of elimination.
During menarche, menstruation, and menopause, when the prana tends to get disturbed as it tries to calibrate back to balance during the transition times, this Mudra is often practiced by women as a healing modality.
However, it is also a Tantrik Mudra practiced during the final steps of Sri Chakra Sadhana to offer gratitude and pay respect to the Shakti or to invoke her presence within.

If you look closely, the four fingers held together (index and ring) represent the four petals/nadis of Muladhara Chakra. The rest of the six fingers held together (middle, little and thumb) represents the six petals/nadis of Swadhishthana Chakra. Nadis carry prana. When the Mudra is held like in this formation, the prana begins to animate the energy stuck in the marma points to bring balance of dosha, prana and agni.
For example, we must identify and acknowledge the impact of age, dosha, and agni to choose practices that may benefit the most.

First of all, it is okay!! There’s a lot going on and so much uncertainty in our lives and in the world. As much as there is a lot of joy and always something to celebrate, for many there is a lot to grieve. There’s a lot of loneliness and stress right now.
